I was at Cineleisure today and a bike video that was being shown on a display TV (in a fashion retail store known as 'Collage' on Level 3) drew me into the shop.

I had recognized it from Jin's posting on MASH, the famous Fixed Gear Cycling group based in San Francisco http://www.mashsf.com/ and was surprised to learn that they were selling Fixed Gear Bikes & limited related accessories there.

After speaking with the shopkeeper, I was surprised to learn that there's a group of 50 or so fixed gear cyclist in Singapore, even though the sport is in its infancy stage.

Personally, I've not met any on the road but really look forward to meeting with them someday...Do keep a lookout for them!

The legs are the brakes!!

Fixie riding is a counter-culture lifestyle... i would not even consider it a sport or a 'discipline' of cycling. This is the world of bike couriering, skid competitions, alley-cat races, no helmets, anti-lycra, anti-establishment urban frolicking, over-developed quadriceps, and alcohol as ride nutrition. Merely having the bike is insufficient - one has got to BECOME a fixie rider.

Sorry triathletes: you're such a humungous horde in Singapore liao... it may be harder than you think to try to fit into a group of fixed riders.

Aren't these fixed gear bikers famous of their "weaving against traffic" modus operandi and "cyclist are above all vehicles" attitude.haha

Yeah, quite a couple of videos on youtube.Theres even a competition on trackstanding.

I guess it became famous globally due to the bike messeger culture.
