On the other hand, the geometry in a tri bike is catered for the triathlete: Steep seat angle (76-80 degrees) to keep the hamstrings fresh for the run. A road bike's slack seat angle (less than 76degrees) is more for the hamstrings to work, which equates to very tired legs for the run in a tri race..

Something to consider.. at the end of the day, i think each has its pros and cons.. do some research on the net and be rewarded!

Guy.. this thread is very important for newbies like me..
I'm currently doing most of the runs events in SG.
Did quite a few biathlons. I'm considering getting a bike to go into trilathlon next year.
And IM in 2010.
I've consulted a friend who is in Tri, but would like to seek advise from gurus and pros here.
My friend advised me to get a road bike to start. As a road bike will be cheaper and safer.
I was told that the brakes and gear shift for tri are separated while road bikes are together.

Whats the take from the gurus here? Get a road bike to train and get used to riding, and then a tri bike when I am better?
Getting a bike fit on a road bike is better than riding on a tri bike without bike fit?

Please advise Gurus!

Recently I was considering changing to a tri frame from a road with aero bar setup and found a interesting article from slowtwitch as to whether you are suited to what kind of bikes. Hope it helps..

Felt Tri bike are real good. Affordable and good. Maybe can try for a b2, sick monster.

Dont really need to have another training bike if you cant afford it. I am using my tri bike as my training bike as well, maybe too used to it, even though there are lots of steepy slope here. But if you can invest, another good race bike will be good.
