I just want to share an incident that happened to me and my colleague at the Sengkang Swimming Complex today. During our lunch break we decided to run from our workplace in Punggol to the Sengkang pool, do a few laps then run back. While I was swimming the lady life guard asked me to take my tri-top off as it was not allowed in the pool. She said dri-fit material is not allowed in the pool. I explained to her that the tri top was not made of dri fit material and was of the same material as my colleagues tri-suit. She also said that the tri-suit was also not allowed in the pool. Instead of arguing and wasting swimming time I had no choice but to take it off. My colleague was allowed to keep his tri-suit on as it would have been a bit awkward swimming in the nude.

Has anybody come across such rules that tri suits and tri tops are not allowed to be worn inthe pool?

I would feel very very insulted if she asked for ONLY the top to be removed.

What about wetsuit then? I haven't tried it before but I believe some would have trained in wetsuit before?

I think tops are allowed -just check out the # of swim coaches in full suit. on weekends. They're sun-smart obviously...

Am meeting a friend who's the operation manager at one of the SSC centres. Will ask him tmw and let u know then...

I definitely have seen people wearing what looks like surfing top (or what the Aussies call it rashies, i think) at the pool. Doesn't make sense then to ban tri tops.

Could it be your tri top was too loose or big? That made you look like wearing a bike jersey.

Seems that most skin tight tops are allowed, including tri and surfing top.

I think you met an overzealous guard that day...

I don't see any issues wearing tri top swimming in public pool. But it MIGHT be a hygiene issue if you have sweat it out before you jump into the pool. Maybe the LG is concern about that. Otherwise, I think it perfectly fine. Maybe this point is not stressed clearly in SSC pool regulation.

Wet suit wise, I have done it few times in a public pool. But, beware of those aunties and uncles accompaning their kids or grand children for swimm lesson. They will look at you differently. I was once termed as a SEAL by an aunty. She told her grand kid " You see that uncle...he looks like a SEAL"....damnnnnnnnn

SSC has replied to my query on wearing tri tops / suits in pools:

My sincere apologies on that incident. The lifeguard on duty may not be familiar with the swim suit that is typically worn by a triathlete. I have shared this with the lifeguard that as long as it is a permitted swim swear by the triathlon association , he/she will be allowed to train in our pool.

I hope your future visits will be a pleasant experience

Sengkang do have some,... how shall I put it... devoted LGs.I've been asked to leave at 0905 several times when the main reason why I swim there is coz they close at 0930. their reason: many ppl will take shower and delay the exit.
