Not an expert, but I believe carbon wheelsets need pads meant specifically for cf wheels. The normal rubber pads will damage the cf braking surface.
Suggest that you have them replaced. Dear all, Need your expert advise here. Just bought a new set of Ultegra brake caliper which comes with stock brake pad. Can these brake pad be use on my carbon wheelset? Any harm to the wheel set? |

Will it damage the wheels? I do not have any alu wheel, so that is not a concern. -------------------- CRAZY2TRI

The stock brake pads are not meant to be used on carbon wheels. So its still not recommendable to use it on them. The carbon pads are made of different kind of materials which is meant for carbon wheels. Suggest you go with Yellow swiss Stop like what Chris says. But the price tag doesnt comes cheap. LBS is selling them at $80 on average. Just my 2 cents.. -------------------- i wish..someday..i could do it

The carbon surface will get damaged. Physically, it is possible, but the wheel surface will get damaged in the long run. "Yellow swiss Stop like what Chris says" is the norm among carbon wheel users. |

Dear all, Need your expert advise here. Just bought a new set of Ultegra brake caliper which comes with stock brake pad. Can these brake pad be use on my carbon wheelset? Any harm to the wheel set? Errmmm interestingly enough I just had this conversation with T3 mechanics after I purchased a set of carbon wheels over the weekend. the seller and the mechanic unanimously told me that over time the normal rubber compound will wear off the braking surface of the carbon wheels though, leaving a metallic sheen which in layman terms will make the braking futile over time. the alternative I saw was an expensive pair of brake pads specially made for carbon wheels. I warn you, they don't come cheap as they sell like one pair and not 4 pcs. But at least I heard their long wearing. cheers -------------------- one can never consent to creep , when one feels the compulsion to soar

What about the Shimano 7850-CL?
From chainreactioncycles website this is the description: "Carbon and alloy laminate clincher rim is both light weight and ridged whilst maintaining high braking performance with standard brake pads." Can normal brake pads be used? |

Can normal brake pads be used? You can use both, which one you decide to use will be defined by your needs/other wheelsets you probably have. |

Can normal brake pads be used? I am currently using this pair of wheels. Nice and light, rolls well, great for hills and climbing. This is basically a ALUMINUM Clincher wheel with carbon. The braking surface is Aluminum. I use the NORMAL brake pads as I use it for climbs and training. Spins fast. Acclerates well. If you are intending of using this wheel on straights then you will find that it does not hold speed well as it is not a deep section wheel. Love it for it's stiffness and agility. -------------------- I WANT TO LIVE TO 120
