guys after a tough double century ride yesterday, i developed a pain on my left knee - at the underside, next to the outer ligament. its tolerable but uncomfortable. is this a seat height (over extension) issue?

discomfort or pain behind the knee could result from a number of factors:
1. saddle too high - hence over stretching the hams over a prolonged period of time 2. over exertion - too much too soon - 210km yesterday is no child's play 3. technique - i have seen you climb, your gear can be too heavy at times and you could have over stretch your hams when you are over enthusiastic on your down stroke 4. tight hams + really tight glutes - if your glutes are tight the muscles within will pull on your hams and that will result in pain behind the knee it could be all of the above or some...or one of them. Remedy - seek professional help from a physio/trained sports masseur to release tensions and knots especially working deeeeeep inside the glutes from the side ITS PAINFUL! professional bike fitting is recommended too. -------------------- dip me in chocolate and throw me to the lesbians...

I also discovered that if your cleats or shoes can also cause knee pain. Had that last weekend and checked that the glue was coming off in my shoe having greater play and movement...

i just realized that it might be the new aerobar i am using, as the drop now is around about 4 inches, up from 3 inches (i went from bontrager xxx to vuka - elbow pads dropped, all else unchanged). that may have over-extended my glutes/hams.

If your drop is lower, then you would be extending more and perhaps more forward? Usually my quads feel the difference when I put the handle bar down.
